This is a custom-made version of the "PG5-AD," a masterpiece that has been a favorite drafting mechanical pencil for many years, now with a wooden barrel. It features a seamless, beautiful form that tapers towards the tip in a streamlined design. The wood type is "Karin Kome" (Burmese Padauk Burl), the "Supreme Black" with an all-black burl pattern. The black coloration is caused by bacterial infection in the Karin Kome, creating what is known as "ao-kome" (blue burl) or "spalted." Among these, the "Supreme Black" is derived only from those with a deep, concentrated black color that extends throughout the wood. Only a few of these can be obtained from a large Karin Kome burl. It is a very precious and exquisite piece that showcases a stunning pattern. The PG5 has been a long-selling product for over 50 years, and its light writing feel and fatigue resistance are supported by many. The wooden barrel customization by Takamura Moku Koubou (Takamura Wood Studio) draws out the original charm while adding the warmth and texture unique to wood. Designed to maintain the slim silhouette of the PG5, metal parts are used to a minimum. By utilizing the original parts, the finished weight is kept to approximately 12-14g. The center of gravity is adjusted to be at the grip, allowing it to fit naturally in the fingers, providing a light and comfortable writing experience. The wooden barrel part can be removed and replaced. The surface finish uses a penetrating inorganic glass coating. It penetrates the wood and adheres to it, providing high hardness, water resistance, and stain resistance, allowing for long-term maintenance-free use.
