This is an antique lithograph of botanical art from "Ferns: British and Exotic," a botanical encyclopedia published in the Victorian era (1856-1862) by the British botanist Edward Joseph Lowe. In an era without photography, scientifically accurate depictions of plants were called "botanical art." Eventually, specialized painters with superior drawing techniques emerged, and with advancements in printing technologies such as woodblock and copperplate printing, numerous botanical encyclopedias and other books featuring botanical illustrations were published. Initially published in monochrome, they later began to be hand-colored. [Ferns] are precisely depicted. As this is a page cut from an encyclopedia from about 160 years ago, there is some damage such as browning and stains. Please confirm before purchasing. It is in good condition for an antique item.
