The outer material, like other deck jackets, typically uses cotton grosgrain, commonly known as "jungle cloth," and the lining uses alpaca mohair wool pile, which provides excellent wind resistance and heat retention. The navy blue model of the N-1 was adopted in 1944, and the khaki model was issued the following year, 1945. The changes were not only in color, but also included the omission of alpaca mohair sewn into the cuffs, simplification of the loops on the lining under the armpits and at the hem cord, enlargement of the eyelets on the hem cord, and changes in the position of the underarm eyelets, showing significant differences.
