"Shigaraki ware" is pottery produced in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. It is counted as one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns and is said to have a long history of 1260 years. In 1976 (Showa 51), it was designated as a traditional craft by the government.
