This is a hand-wound wristwatch from CYMA, a long-established Swiss brand, manufactured nearly 100 years ago. It features a stainless steel case, which was very rare at the time. [Stainless Steel at the Time] Stainless steel itself was invented in the early 1910s (mainly in the UK and Germany). It was still in its early stages of practical use, and it wasn't until the late 1920s to early 1930s that it began to be used in watch cases. - Watch cases at the time were mainly made of silver, brass + plating, and nickel alloys. Stainless steel was still a "new material" and considered a high-end material. Stainless steel was difficult to process, and especially for precision parts like watches, it was difficult to handle with the technology of the time, so only a few manufacturers (Omega, Longines, CYMA, etc.) adopted it. The dial has an enamel finish and retains its luster even after 100 years. [About Enamel Dials] Enamel dials are made by baking a glass-like powder (enamel) onto a metal plate at high temperatures. Because of this, they do not fade even after 100 years and maintain a pure white and glossy shine. They have a depth and transparency, like porcelain, that cannot be achieved with printing or paint. At the time, skilled craftsmen baked them one by one by hand. Watches with enamel dials were only used in high-end models and custom-made models. Because of its glass-like nature, it is resistant to ultraviolet rays and moisture, and the letters and indexes remain clear, which is unique to enamel. Even small cracks (hairline cracks) are loved as a "style" that tells the story of time. [The hands are blued steel] Blued steel hands are a traditional craft technique created by the delicate temperature control and experience of watchmakers. The steel hands are carefully heated to around 290°C, and the surface is oxidized to naturally develop color, resulting in a deep, clear blue. This is not coloring by painting or plating, but by the color change of the metal itself. The blue created by this heat treatment changes its expression depending on the angle of the light, from ultramarine to purplish, and shows a beauty as if it were alive.
