Chamula is located in a high-altitude mountainous region of Mexico, so it is a cold area. They raise sheep themselves and weave clothes and rugs from the sheep's wool using a technique called BackStrapLoom. The animalitos originated as toys for children, made from the leftover fabric. The women of Chamula are called Chamulitas. The animalitos are made by these women, ranging in age from 10 to 60 years old, and are handmade one by one. Therefore, no two are exactly alike. They all have adorable, different expressions. Most of the Chamulitas marry in their early teens and have children at 14 or 15. They make animalitos to help their children and support their household, selling them in front of their homes and at markets. Thank you for viewing.
