It is housed in a high-quality box with a top and bottom lid made of boxwood. The jade is relatively hard, and the ink grinding surface (鋒鋩) is quite fine. It doesn't have the same rough, gritty feel as Duan inkstones or She inkstones, but I think it is suitable for creating delicate ink colors with fine particles, such as for ink wash painting or light ink calligraphy. It is a valuable bean-speckled jade inkstone.
