There is a crack. It doesn't extend to the top surface, but it looks like it might crack if you drive the blade in like this. It's probably better to tighten it with screws or bolts before using it. I've cleaned it to remove the dirt, but it's an old base, so it's less likely to warp. Even new ones can have rust on the blade, and in severe cases, it can seize up and the blade won't come out. This one also had some rust, so I've removed the dirt and wiped it with oil, so please don't worry about that. Please refrain from price negotiations, except for bulk purchases.
