This is a traditional upper garment made as ceremonial attire by the Miao people of Guizhou Province, China, using flat embroidery (hira-shishū). Flat embroidery is an extremely advanced and painstaking embroidery technique in which the needle is advanced while counting each weave (mesh) of the fabric. It can never be replicated by machine, and it is said that it takes more than six months to complete a single garment.
