This is a copy of a Wang Xizhi post, copied by Goseki. Learning through copying is very important. The teacher I'm currently studying with has very beautiful handwriting. However, that teacher became skilled by repeatedly copying. To use a cooking analogy, I think it's like learning the basics of cooking – how to sharpen a knife, how to make broth, how to cook rice, how to steam – before you can make any kind of dish.
