This is a piece of old sashiko fabric with such fine stitching that it's barely visible to the naked eye. At first, I didn't realize it was sashiko, and thought it was just a thick striped cotton. It appears to have never been used after being stitched, and is clean with no stains. It has a stiffness and a rough texture. It may have been part of a work garment. With repeated washing, the sashiko stitching will become more prominent and age beautifully. It's suitable for use as a rug or a cover for a basket. As it is a valuable fabric, it is also recommended for display in stores.
