The condition is good. 【Artist's Description】 Gakusui Ide (Ide Gakusui, 1899-1982) was a printmaker from the Taisho to Showa periods. A disciple of Hirokata Arai. His real name was Taizo Ide. He used the art name Gakusui. Born in Funatsu-cho, Yamanashi Prefecture (present-day Funatsu, Fujikawaguchiko-machi, Minamitsuru-gun) in 1899. After graduating from the Nihon University College of Art, he studied under Tamon Yamauchi, and later under Hirokata Arai. Later, he served as a director of the Art Education Promotion Association. Gakusui moved to China in 1929 and opened a Japanese painting school in Shanghai, where he lived until after World War II. After staying there for 17 years, he returned to Japan in 1946. In 1949, he began to produce flower and bird paintings in collaboration with Shosaburo Watanabe of the Watanabe Print Shop. He is best known for his woodblock prints depicting large cranes and blue herons, many of which were realistic and similar to the designs of Koson Ohara and other flower and bird painters. However, his two "Cranes" were particularly rare among the Shin-hanga, with a design featuring powerful linear forms. Died at the age of 83.
