Thank you for viewing. This is a hanging scroll by Iwaya Ichiroku. He was a famous calligrapher from the Meiji era and a native of Shiga Prefecture. My grandfather, who loved antiques and taught calligraphy, purchased it. It came in a paulownia wood box. It is old and has considerable staining. I believe my mother had it re-mounted once. The surrounding area seems relatively clean. Please check the condition in the photos. Iwaya Ichiroku (March 17, 1834 - July 12, 1905) was a calligrapher, bureaucrat, and Chinese poet from Shiga Prefecture. Iwaya Sazanami, who is considered the founder of modern Japanese children's literature, was his third son.
