I acquired this item about 20 years ago from an indigenous person on Uros Island, a floating island made of bundled totora reeds on Lake Titicaca, located at an altitude of 3,800 meters, after visiting the island from a pier in Puno, about 400 kilometers southeast of Cusco. Since then, it has been stored in a shelf used for storing textiles, etc. Although time has passed, it is almost unused. This item features an embroidered design on a flat-woven woolen cloth, likely due to the low temperatures on Lake Titicaca, which is located at a high altitude of 3,800 meters. The design depicts totora reeds floating on water and water birds (the third image shows the back). It reflects the reeds floating on the water, with the blue of the water, the yellow-green of the reeds, and the reddish-brown of their seed heads, depicting 23 totora reed clumps. It also depicts 22 water birds gathering on the lake, embroidered with dark yellow beaks, yellow and blue-green feathers, green crests and feet, and yellow-green thread for the bodies, creating a charming scene. There are two types of water birds: those facing forward and those lowering their heads to feed. This item is almost unused since I acquired it, but please note that thin brown threads are used in small areas between the yellow and white threads, and there is also a small area (one place, probably) that has discolored to a skin tone (see the image in the center of the bottom of the first image, and the purple arrow in the tenth image). I hope you will enjoy this woolen embroidered cloth, which features a charming motif in the pale colors of Uros Island, while thinking of Cusco and Lake Titicaca. Please note that white cloth is used under the embroidered cloth, but it appears slightly bluish-white due to the photography, and the colors of the embroidered cloth are similar. Please understand that the colors in the partial photos (from the fifth image onwards) are a bit more yellowish, which is closer to the actual color of the item.
