Kakuzo Inoue (井上 覚造): Studied under Narashige Koide at the Shinanobashi Western Painting Institute. First selected for the Nika Exhibition in 1930, and became a special member in 1939 after exhibiting "Work A" and others at the same exhibition. He belonged to the avant-garde group Kyushitsu-kai within the Nika Association. He won the Nika Prize in 1942 for "Rikka" at the same exhibition, and became a member of the association in 1945. He received the Member's Effort Award at the same exhibition in 1951, the Seiji Award in 1972 for "Hunter's Diary," and the Prime Minister's Award in 1977 for "Introduction to the Critique of Civilization." He also exhibited at the Indian Biennale in 1957, the Salon Comparaisons in 1960, and the Mexico Auditorio Nacional Exhibition in 1961, and was active in international exhibitions. He painted surrealistic landscapes with motifs such as stone structures.
