Originally natural vegetable-tanned leather, it has aged to this color through approximately two years of wear. This aging process is irresistible for those who appreciate it. A leather belt of this thickness and quality would definitely cost over 15,000 yen new. It's not just thick; the leather is "multi-oil leather," a type of vegetable-tanned leather that ages to a deep brown color. Despite its thickness, it's also supple and ages beautifully. By the way, the belt itself cost 9,800 yen at the time. I wore it three times a week for about two years during seasons other than summer. While it has become supple, the leather hasn't deteriorated much, and there's no sign of it tearing. It still has the potential to become even darker brown. The buckle is currently a solid brass buckle with a thick pin, which originally cost 2,100 yen. The belt loop (salkan) is also made of brass and cost 1,000 yen. The fasteners are also unique, using brass screw-type fasteners, which cost 310 yen each x 3, totaling about 1,000 yen. The hardware alone cost about 4,000 yen, making this a unique, custom-made piece. I think you can greatly enjoy the aging of both the leather and the brass.
