The "12 Challenges" exhibition features 12 artists connected to Ibaraki who have exhibited at the Venice Biennale since Japan's first participation in 1952. Fifty years after Japan's first participation, the environment surrounding art has changed significantly, but the fact that artists have always challenged new forms of expression and expanded the framework of art remains unchanged. This exhibition introduces works from the late 20th century, ranging from Japanese-style paintings to installations, to demonstrate the diversity of artistic expression and the relationship between each era and new art.
