Purchased from an antique jewelry shop in France. This is a Creole style, a particularly popular type of antique earring. The facets on the surface reflect light in multiple directions, creating a sparkling shine. Creole earrings usually have gold filigree on both sides of the hoop, but these earrings are very rare as they also have a lattice-like openwork design in between. Creating such openwork along the hoop is technically difficult, and the design is beautiful whether viewed from the front or the back. Metal: 18k (stamped with the eagle's head hallmark, indicating 18k or higher in France) Era: Circa 1930 Creole earrings are originally worn by passing the post through the earlobe from the back (dormeuse type), but these can also be worn from the front because of their symmetrical design. *Earrings only.
