July 2025 Gion Matsuri (Festival) This is a Chimaki (bamboo leaf wrapped rice cake) from the Tsuki-boko (Moon Halberd) float. The paper on the left side is not included. Only the Chimaki itself is for sale. I purchased this after waiting in a long line on July 15th. The Gion Matsuri Chimaki originally comes from the practice of purifying oneself and praying for good health, and has been revered as a charm since ancient times. I bought extra, so I am selling these. It is said that receiving one from someone else brings more good luck. In Kyoto, there is a custom of displaying them at the entrance of your home for one year. Many people hang them in a high place near the entrance. As they are handmade, each one has a different shape, and there may be some paper folds or damage.
