Perhaps it's made of pine. This is a deadstock, unused item, but it has a slight dent. It seems to have been caused by contact with other lacquerware items that were stacked together... however, the material may be relatively soft. It's not very noticeable, so I think it won't be a problem for normal use. This is a kneading bowl, often used for making soba noodles, but the contrast between the red brushstrokes and the black wood grain is beautiful, and it appears to have been made to be used as a confectionery bowl or serving bowl. Price unknown. It feels like a unique design for a kneading bowl.
