Joshu Zakuri Wooden Thread Winder Antique Ornament/Interior This is a Zakuri thread winder that was used at my family's home, which was engaged in sericulture until the mid-Showa era. We shipped the beautiful cocoons, but the slightly soiled cocoons (kuzu-mayu, or waste cocoons) were boiled in a pot, the thread ends were pulled out, and then wound with this tool to be used as silk thread. There were also tools such as a foot-powered loom and a larger thread winder, but except for this Zakuri thread winder, all of them were dismantled and used as firewood for the bath. Only this Zakuri thread winder was kept as an antique ornament. The wooden thread winder that is listed separately fits into the core rod of this Zakuri thread winder. There are small holes and notches in the main body, but I don't know their purpose. There are four gears, and none of the teeth are missing. When you turn the handle, the rotation is transmitted to all the gears. There are no cracks or chips in the main body (please enlarge the images to confirm). I wiped it with water before listing it.
