Showa Retro Wooden Kite String Winder / Manual Thread Winder Surveying Measuring Rope / Measuring Tape / Kenjo / Kennawa This item was found in the storage room of my parents' house. It may be a vintage thread winder used for flying kites in the past, or a surveying tool, a measuring rope (modern measuring tape), from the Edo to Meiji periods. If it is a measuring rope (kenjo/kennawa), it seems to be the kind of item displayed in museums and other institutions. I am an amateur, so please make your judgment based on the photos. The string is made by twisting two threads, a grayish pale pink and a hemp color, which gives it a nice atmosphere. The spool rotates smoothly. Although there are age-related scratches and dirt on the wooden body, the string does not appear to have been used much.
