Shikishi (Decorative Paperboard) - Taizo Ishizaka, Chairman of the Japan Association for the World Exposition "Progress and Harmony for Mankind" Osaka Expo This is a shikishi (printed) with the handwritten calligraphy of Taizo Ishizaka, Chairman of the Japan Association for the World Exposition. It is a valuable shikishi created to commemorate the 1970 Osaka Expo. Although there is some aging due to the shikishi being 55 years old, it is in relatively good condition. Shikishi Chairman of the Japan Association for the World Exposition Taizo Ishizaka "Progress and Harmony for Mankind" Taizo Ishizaka (June 3, 1886 - March 6, 1975) was a Japanese financial leader and business executive. After retiring from the Ministry of Communications, he joined Dai-ichi Life Insurance. After serving as president of Dai-ichi Life Insurance and Tokyo Shibaura Electric (now Toshiba), he became the second chairman of the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) (in office, February 21, 1956 - May 24, 1968). He served as chairman of Keidanren for four terms, 12 years. The nickname "Prime Minister of the Financial World" for the Keidanren chairman originated with Taizo Ishizaka. He was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, First Class, and the Senior Third Rank. In 1957, he became chairman of Arabian Oil. In 1960, he became chairman of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games Fund Foundation. In 1963, he became chairman of the Japan Industrial Club. In 1964, Japan joined the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Along with this, he also joined the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC), and Ishizaka became the chairman of BIAC Japan, actively working on the liberalization of capital. In the same year, he succeeded Shinzo Koizumi and became an advisor to the Imperial Household Agency. He also became the president of the Boy Scouts of Japan. In 1965, he gave a lecture in front of Emperor Showa. In November, at the request of Minister of International Trade and Industry Takeo Miki, he accepted the position of chairman of the Japan World Exposition Association, which had been difficult to find a suitable person for, and brought about the Osaka Expo in March 1970. In 1975, he died of cerebral thrombosis at the Tokyo Women's Medical University Hospital at the age of 88. After his death, he was posthumously awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Grand Cordon of the Paulownia Flowers on March 14.
