I deconstructed an Oshima Tsumugi kimono and made a jumper skirt with cute pockets. There are no signs of wear, and the kimono was in very good condition. After unraveling, I only disinfected it with a high-temperature iron. I listed it as having no noticeable scratches or stains, but there is a faint stain on the white lining from storage (Photo 14). Please check it. I used the same fabric as the lining (Hakkake) visible from the hem (Photo 12) for the pocket edges (Photo 8). When worn, the pockets have a design that puffs out slightly from the sides. I referenced the work of Yoshida Sansei, who introduces many wonderful clothes and bags using vintage clothing. The original kimono is shown in (Photos 15-18). It's an apron-type jumper skirt that you put your head through the straps (Photo 13). The gentle navy blue background has large geometric patterns arranged vertically and alternately. The patterns are packed with traditional diamond and tortoise shell patterns in red, green, and yellow. The Oshima Tsumugi fabric has a smooth, silky feel and is surprisingly light. It feels comfortable to the touch, and the lining is also silk. Since the back of the kimono is used as is, I think you'll be able to stay warm in the coming season. I made the same design for myself, and it's very useful. I wear it layered over pants and a long-sleeved T-shirt. Unraveling vintage clothing is difficult, but the good thing is that you can enjoy the unique colors and combinations of Japan. I enjoy sewing, specializing in straight stitching. I am a complete amateur who enjoys remaking old kimonos, obi, and furoshiki such as Tsumugi, Meisen, and Komon.
