# Priceless Item When I was in Paris, I loved an antique shop located roughly between Montparnasse and Odéon, and I often went there to buy various items. This item is one of them: a Balinese Barong ebony wood carving. I went to Bali many times and searched for carvings in Mas village, known as the carving village, but the items available for tourists weren't very impressive, and the quality of the ebony was poor. Bringing them back to Japan from humid Bali often caused them to crack due to dryness. I had given up hope when I found this in Paris! This statue was clearly different, as it had been purchased by a famous French art buyer! I fell in love with it at first sight; it's a stunning piece. It has a sense of weight and presence. The beast's expression is fierce. Each of the single-knife carvings is artistic, and I was amazed that such detailed work could be done on ebony. If I weren't being transferred overseas, I would have kept it on display forever, but my new location prohibits the import of wooden items through customs, so I'm reluctantly letting it go. By the way, my family dropped it this time, and a part of the wing chipped off. Therefore, it's being sold as a damaged item, but the condition is perfect except for the chipped wing.
