Moon crash pads combine thin, firm closed-cell foam to disperse landing impact with thick, softer open-cell foam to absorb shock. While many pads are designed to have the landing surface on the inside when folded, MOON pads use a "reverse taco folding system" where the landing surface is on the outside. This allows the pad to be folded so that the thin, firm foam, which is prone to creasing, curves gently, increasing the durability of the foam. Also, since the surface that tends to get muddy on the ground is folded inside, there is the advantage that dirt is less likely to get on your clothes, in your car, or during storage at home when carried. Due to this design, the shoulder straps are equipped on the landing surface, but when used as a pad, the straps are covered with a large flap with a foot-cleaning mat. This flap also functions as a bottom flap to prevent small items from falling out when the pad is carried.
