The Kalocsa company was founded in 1971 and currently has 25 employees who hand-paint each piece. The following is an excerpt from the Kalocsa company's website: ~ Skilled painters use delicate brushstrokes to vividly depict the unique Kalocsa style. This pattern developed after a thread factory opened nearby in 1912. The various colors of thread were later incorporated into wall decorations and porcelain painting. We distinguish three very similar Kalocsa patterns, except for the color usage: "Kalocsa Traditional," "Kalocsa Modest," and "Kalocsa Blue." Regarding the motifs, the unique "Kalocsa patterns" use stylized forms of wildflowers such as forget-me-nots, carnations, cornflowers, lilacs, daisies, and pansies. The arrangement of the flowers, the filling of the surface, and the expression of nature in folk art are always consistent. The clothing of the younger generation was usually decorated with the Kalocsa traditional pattern. Kalocsa Blue, which uses only shades of blue, was worn as home wear. The Kalocsa Modest pattern is characterized by not using motifs of red, pale yellow, or paprika shadows. ~ The vibrant floral patterns stand out on the white porcelain.
