Qiu Ying is said to have been from Taicang, Jiangsu Province. He originally worked as a lacquer craftsman, but his outstanding descriptive ability was highly praised, and he gradually came to the fore in the world of painting. He excelled in a wide range of fields, including figure painting, landscape painting, jiehua (paintings that precisely depict architecture), and blue-and-green landscape painting. He is particularly known for his detailed, gorgeous, and elegant style. His style faithfully inherits the classical painting methods of the Tang and Song dynasties, while also being rich in ornamentation and storytelling, and is characterized by its combination of courtly and literati tastes. He also created many works with historical figures, court life, and beautiful women as subjects, and is highly regarded for the meticulous composition and beauty of the colors. His representative works include "Spring Dawn in the Han Palace," "Peach Blossom Spring," and "Along the River During the Qingming Festival (copy)," all of which are highly regarded as masterpieces with exquisite brushwork and rich storytelling.
