This is a three-tiered jubako (lacquered food box) with a tsume-nuri finish (after the undercoat, vermilion lacquer is applied, and then a darker lacquer is applied on top, allowing the vermilion undercoat to show through). ● Size: Approximately 20cm x 20cm (Height: Approximately 20cm including the lid when stacked in three tiers; approximately 6.5cm per tier.) I purchased this from the lacquerware section of the Seibu Department Store in Tokyo about 15 years ago. I believe the price was around 100,000 yen. I used it about once every two years, and haven't used it in recent years. It's a very beautiful and simple square jubako. Each tier is the same, so it can be used beautifully with one or two tiers as well. It has a substantial thickness of wood and is well-made. ※ There is no box or documentation identifying the maker.
