I was told by my grandfather that this piece dates from the mid to late Edo period. It's a rather large piece, and the body has a slight bulge. Inside, there's a depiction of what appears to be a pine tree, a fish head, and perhaps waves, all painted with gold. The rim is also gilded. Beside that, there are diamond-shaped patterns drawn with thin red and gold lines, and you can feel the thickness of the glaze with your fingertips. It's a vibrant piece, painted with red, indigo, green, and gold. It can be used not only for soba noodles but also for rock-style liquor, as a large sake cup, or even for coffee. There are cracks throughout, and there are old cracks on the bottom, but there are no problems with use. I hope that those who understand the nature of old items will purchase it.
