He belonged to the Togatta style and studied under Matsunosuke Sato and Yoshiaki Sato. He began his woodturning training at the age of 16, and after returning from the war, he worked as a woodturner at the Kyoei Wood Factory and others. He became independent in Sendai in 1951 and devoted himself to making Kokeshi dolls. His disciples include Mitsuru Rokugo, Shoichi Kanno, and Masahiro Sato. In 1958, he established the "Michinoku Kokeshi Association" and worked to promote old-style Kokeshi dolls, but it was dissolved due to financial difficulties. After that, he continued to produce Kokeshi dolls while moving his workshop, and in his later years, he worked with his son, Satoshi, and grandson, Makoto.
