What is Kosode Hinagata? Kosode Hinagata-bon are pattern books of kosode designs printed using woodblock printing during the Edo period. They were used as order books for kimono shops, design materials for kosode, and also enjoyed as picture books for appreciating the beauty of the illustrations, and were widely used by everyone from commoners to samurai and townspeople. About the Product: This product is a bolt of fabric that faithfully traces the designs of Kosode Hinagata drawn from the Edo to Meiji periods and reconstructs them as komon patterns. The designs are classical, yet they even feel new. This product features the phoenix marumon and arabesque patterns, as well as auspicious characters in seal script, depicted in the "Pattern Hinagata Naniwa no Ume" as a kimono pattern. A band-like pattern of gold arabesques dances on a red background, with the divine bird, the phoenix, dancing within. And around it, auspicious characters such as "Fuku" (fortune) and "Kotobuki" (longevity) in seal script in blue-green, layering dignity and auspicious meaning throughout the pattern.
