This is a set of three sake cups with dyed cloud and crane designs by the renowned 11th generation Eiraku Hozen of Kyo-yaki. Hozen was born in Kyoto in 1795. Initially, he became a page at the Obai-in Temple of Daitoku-ji, and around the age of 12 or 13, he was adopted by the 10th generation Eiraku Ryozen and aspired to study ceramics. In 1817, he took the name Zengoro. In 1827, he was summoned by the Kishu Tokugawa family and went to Nanki, where he worked on the Kishu garden kiln and was awarded the "Kahin Shiryu" gold seal and the "Eiraku" silver seal. He created tea utensils, daily necessities, and other items, including Kinrande, sometsuke (dyed) ware, and imitations of Shonzui ware. He was summoned by daimyo lords in Edo and various other locations to create works. He passed away at the age of sixty in 1854. This work is a sometsuke piece by Hozen, likely from his later years. The sizes are: large cup, 7.5 cm in diameter, 4.5 cm in height; medium cup, 7 cm in diameter, 3.9 cm in height; small cup, 6.4 cm in diameter, 3.2 cm in height. It comes in a matching box and is in good condition. It will be carefully packed and shipped.
