"Tokyo Story" is a masterpiece by Yasujiro Ozu, a leading Japanese filmmaker along with Akira Kurosawa and Kenji Mizoguchi. It can be considered a culmination of Ozu's lifelong theme of parent-child relationships, which he explored since the silent film era. An elderly couple from the countryside comes to Tokyo to visit their grown children. The children initially welcome them, but soon find them a burden and send them off to Atami. Ironically, only the widow of their son, who died in the war, takes care of them. Eventually, the elderly couple returns to their hometown, but soon after, the wife suddenly dies. The elderly man, left alone, quietly gazes at the sea...
