Isetatsu was founded in 1864 in Kanda Moto-Iwai-cho (present-day Iwamoto-cho) as a publisher of chiyogami (decorative paper) and toy pictures. Chiyogami features traditional patterns found on fabrics, as well as pictures themed on nature and the lives of the times, hand-printed using woodblock printing on hosho paper.
