This Arita-yaki plate is a porcelain made from a material with a high glass content, and is characterized by its clear, translucent white porcelain. It is a type of pottery manufactured in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture and surrounding areas, and is said to be the oldest porcelain in Japan. A common feature is the beautiful sometsuke (dyeing) with vivid red and gos (indigo blue). In the past, it was called Imari-yaki or Hizen-yaki, and was exported to Europe and loved by royalty and nobility. Currently, it is considered one of the three major porcelains in Japan. It features a design of blue sometsuke (dyeing) on white porcelain, and overglaze painting in red and green. The edge of the plate has a wavy, flower-shaped design.
