This is a bamboo basket with paper lining, dyed with persimmon tannin. It is estimated to be from the Taisho era to the early Showa era (approximately 1912-1930s). The basket is woven from bamboo and lined with paper treated with persimmon tannin for insect repellent and sterilization. The rich color of the persimmon tannin gives it a sense of age. It's a good size and would be a lovely display for fruit. There are small holes and scratches on the paper lining, but the basket itself is sturdy.
