This is a single item listing for a trial production of carbide scribing tips, designed to cut costs, instead of our all-carbide scribing chisels and handled chisels. We have produced trial versions in 4 sizes, starting with 0.2mm. Images 1-3 use the 0.2mm tip as a reference. For sizes smaller than that, please refer to image 4. As these are prototypes, image 4 shows actual photos of the listed sizes. Sizes 0.12mm and smaller are for advanced users. Naturally, these are made by machining the highest quality Japanese carbide. The difference in quality between Japanese and overseas carbide is significant. Of course, these are made entirely in Japan. Cheap imported products from overseas often have questionable material specifications. For example, carbide is different from tungsten. Some even use ambiguous terms like "hard metal." Japan has the highest standards for carbide, and the industry is small. There are few, if any, experts in sharpening carbide cutting tools in Japan besides myself. Like our scribing chisels and chisels, these are hand-cut and polished with a gentle taper. Blades with a mechanically produced straight-width edge will break at the base and become disposable. The shorter the blade tip, the easier it is to break. The gentle taper is like a fishing rod, gradually transmitting force to the base. In other words, it bends like a fishing rod, making it less likely to break. (I am not saying that it will never break.) Similar to a fishing rod, if it breaks during scribing, it often breaks only a few millimeters from the tip, so it may be shortened but can often be reused after re-sharpening. Of course, we also offer after-sales service for re-sharpening the blade, but this level of sharpening is difficult for users. Re-sharpening a round material is more difficult than a plate material, so the labor cost is higher than for chisels and the tip is more likely to become shorter. If you want to sharpen it yourself and use it for a long time, we recommend our all-carbide scribing chisels. The total length is approximately 25mm, but depending on the size, the tapered rectangular cross-section is about half that length, or about 15mm. The attachment diameter of the round material is approximately 1.3-4mm, so you will need a pin vise or similar tool that can secure a 1.3-4mm round material. The blade tip is mirror-finished at the same angle as our scribing chisels and chisels. The tips are marked with a marker to indicate the front and back direction of the blade. The color heat shrink tubing is for attachment to the pin vise, as a stopper for the cover tube, and for size identification. It will move if you press it hard. Whether or not these prototypes will be relisted is undecided. http://bijodam.com Workshop BijoDam, led by Yutaka Ota
