What's behind it? Yoshitaro Nomura directs a film adaptation of one of Seicho Matsumoto's representative works, featuring a cast of three leading actresses. It was remade in 2009. Director Nomura, who gained high acclaim with "The Stakeout (1958)," made a specialty of filming Matsumoto's works, and subsequently made a series of films such as "Shadow's Car," "The Man Without a Map," and "The Demon." This film is the second Matsumoto adaptation. The story follows a newlywed wife who searches for her husband who disappeared soon after their marriage, and uncovers her husband's unexpected past... a suspenseful mystery with a twist, skillfully interwoven with Matsumoto's human drama and local atmosphere, creating a thrilling depiction. The intense acting battle between three popular actresses of the time, Ineko Arima, Yoshiko Kuga, and Hizuru Takachiho, is also not to be missed.
