[What is a Kimekomi doll...] It involves carving grooves into a paulownia wood (toso) base. The edges of the fabric are then pushed into the grooves with tools like an awl, creating the appearance of clothing. Around 1740, a craftsman who made offering boxes for Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto created Kimekomi dolls, marking the beginning of this traditional doll with a history of nearly 300 years.
