This is a traditional craft item made by Japanese artisans. It is made by hollowing out a solid board of genuine Karin wood, which is difficult to obtain these days. The finish is genuine lacquer. The size is approximately 32cm, and the thickness is 3cm, although this is a rough measurement. It is new and unused, but does not come with a dedicated box.
