This is an unused matcha tea bowl from the Mori kiln, which was located in Hakuta-cho, Shimane Prefecture. Mori ware was established in 1844 (Koka 1) during the late Edo period as a kiln for the Mori clan, a branch of the Matsue domain. The size is approximately 11.5 cm in diameter and 7 cm in height, making it a comfortable size for women. The kiln is no longer in operation, making it a truly phantom kiln. This is an ame-yu (amber glaze) tea bowl that particularly reflects the influence of Kanjiro Kawai, a master of folk art from the neighboring town of Yasugi. It has a deep, lustrous finish and is a very well-made, excellent tea bowl. Even locally, it is known as a tea bowl for connoisseurs, unlike famous kilns such as Rakuzan. Materials (images) about the Mori kiln will also be included. Thank you.
