Komagatake Shrine Goshuin (Temple Stamp) One of the two main shrine buildings located at the summit of Mount Komagatake, the highest peak in the Central Alps Kiso Mountain Range. The shrine on the Kiso side is called Kiso Komagatake Shrine, and the one on the Ina side is called Ina Komagatake Shrine. It is said to have been established in 1532 by Tokuhara Haruyasu of Agematsu Town, Kiso District, located at the foot of the mountain. The shrine building is made of wood, with katsuogi (decorative logs) and chigi (forked finials) on a hirairi (gable-end entrance) kirizuma-zukuri (gable roof) style. Komainu (guardian dog statues) are placed in front of the doors, and stone pillars are erected around the perimeter. Stone pillars are also erected around the perimeter, and a maruta (round log) shinmei torii (Shinto shrine gate) is built. Because there are two shrine buildings at the summit, many people visit both Ina Komagatake Shrine and this shrine to commemorate their climb.
