Tsuishu is a lacquerware technique where multiple layers of red lacquer are thickly applied to a base, and then carvings are made into the layers to create patterns. The surface becomes more lustrous with use, and the patterns become more vivid. These Chato have a curved, flower-like shape and are decorated with intricate arabesque-like carvings. Sendai Tsuishu received the Good Design Award in 2011. These red and lustrous lacquerware items have been cherished locally as souvenirs and gifts. They are thick and have some weight. As they have been used, there are scratches on the surface and the underside of the saucers. Please understand that these are used items.
