Painter Otondo Abe (born in Hidaka, Hokkaido in 1919) graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (Tokyo University of the Arts). He was a founding member of the Kitami Society and the Modern Art Faction Association, and served as a lecturer at Hokusei Women's Junior College. He actively engaged in creative activities through the establishment of the Comprehensive Art Institute and research trips to Southeast Asia, America, and Canada.
