After attending Tokyo Prefectural First Middle School, he was a member of the literary club at the First Higher School. He was a contemporary of Yuzo Yamamoto. After graduating from the Faculty of Law, Department of German Law, at Tokyo Imperial University in 1917 (Taisho 6), he worked for Mitsubishi Goshi Kaisha and then Mitsubishi Shoji, but had a strong interest in literature and translated German literature. From the same year until 1926 (Taisho 15), he stayed in Berlin at the company's order. After returning to Japan, he wrote the novel "Half Virgin" (1932) and erotic essays under the pen name "Maruki Sado," a pun on the Marquis de Sade, and also translated expressionist plays such as Goethe's "Faust." While working for Mitsubishi Goshi Kaisha, he translated Erich Maria Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front," which was published as a single volume by Chuo Koronsha and became a bestseller. He left Mitsubishi Shoji in 1932 (Showa 7). The following year, 1933 (Showa 8), he changed jobs to the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater and was involved in the operation of the Nihon Gekijo (Nichigeki), raising the Nichigeki Dancing Team. He became the Representative Director and President of the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater in November 1940 (Showa 15). In December of the same year, he became the Representative Director and President of Korakuen Stadium Co., Ltd. In December 1943 (Showa 18), he became the Representative Vice President of Toho. From January 1947 (Showa 22), he staged "The Birth of Venus," Japan's first strip show, at the Teitoza Theater in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and achieved success. He became the President of the Imperial Theater in November 1950 (Showa 25). In his later years, he was also involved in the management of Nippon Television Network.
