The lighting fixture does not stand out and is flush with the wall. The base ring is dedicated to enhancing the presence of the bulb so that it looks good even when not lit. This is a lighting fixture to be used when you want "pure light to be there." Aluminum has a metallic color that is not flashy and gives a casual impression.
