This is a coaster made from scraps of Matsusaka cotton. It's a handmade piece of mine. The random sashiko stitching adds a playful accent. The beautiful texture of the coaster is created by the vibrant indigo and striped patterns unique to Matsusaka cotton. The rhythm of the sashiko stitching on the simple fabric adds warmth with each stitch. Use it to accompany your relaxing tea time, or as a mat for small items or vases. (Size: Approximately 10.5cm square) ✴︎ Matsusaka cotton is a precious fabric still woven carefully, little by little, while preserving traditional methods. Although it is machine-woven, it retains the texture of hand-woven fabric, and has a simple and warm feel. ✴︎ The striped patterns dyed with natural indigo give off a faint scent of clear indigo. The more you use it, the softer it becomes and the color deepens, which is one of its charms. ✴︎ Loved by the townspeople of the Edo period as "Matsusaka Stripes," the unevenness of the yarn and the expression of the weave are the unique characteristics of the fabric itself.
