It's lined with a fluffy, warm fleece and feels substantial, so I think it can be used as an outer layer. My daughter only wore it a few times when going out, and it hasn't been used for everyday wear at all, so the condition is good. I have stored it carefully at home, but it is a used item, so please refrain from purchasing if you are sensitive to such things.
