His real name was Kimitake Hiraoka (平岡 公威). ◆ Yasunari Kawabata (川端 康成, Kawabata Yasunari, June 14, 1899 – April 16, 1972) was a Japanese novelist and literary critic. He was a member of the Japan Art Academy, a Person of Cultural Merit, and a recipient of the Order of Culture. He was the first Japanese person to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1968. His court rank and decorations were Senior Third Rank and Order of the First Class.
